Our BLM Stash Bags Have Arrived!

To mark Black History Month, our BLM stash bags are here!

We collaborated with Toronto-based artist Melissa Falconer to create these beautiful stash bags which celebrate and show support for Black Canadian communities. Available for purchase at all Canna Cabana locations and online, the proceeds of these stash bags will be used to amplify the voices and creations of Black Canadian artists.

100% of all proceeds from the sale of these stash bags will be donated to Nia Centre for the Arts, a one-of-a-kind, not-for-profit organization that supports and develops Black Canadian artists.

Update: As of Feb 2022, Canna Cabana has contributed $5,000 to Nia Centre for the Arts.

What is Nia Centre for the Arts?

A Canadian not-for-profit, Nia Centre for the Arts promotes, supports, and showcases art and artists from the Afro-diaspora. Since their founding in 2008, Nia has connected thousands of young people and emerging youth artists to mentors, and has offered programs in music, spoken word, literature, visual arts, and more.

With donations from the community, Nia is building Canada’s first multi-disciplinary centre for Afro-Canadian art. Once completed, their space will feature resources like a performance space, an artist studio, a recording studio, a youth space, and a gallery.

Who is Melissa Falconer?

A self-taught Canadian visual artist, Melissa Falconer specializes in what she has named “Black Pop Art,” a style inspired by the bold, unconventional works of Andy Warhol. Inspired by Black culture, Melissa’s works are “created to foster a sense of empowerment, self-love, representation, community and culture.” As a volunteer for Nia’s Creative Connect program, Melissa also provides guidance for young Black artists in Toronto.
